Swampy bank of the Fraser river in Richmond, Beautiful British Columbia.
Shot with Nikon D90 + Tokina 11-16mm + B&W ND Grad - four exposures, merged in Photomatix Pro 4.0. Download includes up to 2560x1600, 2560x1440, and 1600x1200.
I don't typically think of swamps as beautiful places, and when I do there's still a fogginess or eeriness to the atmosphere. This is a complete turn around.
The cloud formation is really beautiful and the patterning of the light on them mirrors the patches of green over the water in the bottom half of the shot. There's also a sense of movement in the sky that I really like. Plus a high variety of textures in the grass, moss, clouds and water to keep interest high without being overwhelming.
I like that the line of sight is consistently drawn back to the soft yellows in the center. It's the most vibrant part of the picture and really pops out among the blue and green. Nice job all around
i got really exited when i read this was in richmond cus i live in richmond(virginia) but then i found out its in british columbia still an amazing photo though
At first glance, this photo immediately catches my eye. I am drawn to the vibrant red, orange and yellow colors in the sky and how they are reflected beautifully on the swamp below. I can honestly say that you make a swamp look beautiful! Because you captured so much of the landscape and how everything is "bursting" from the horizon, it makes me feel as though I am standing there watching it as well.
There is one thing I would like to add as a suggestion to take a look at. While looking at the horizon I felt a bit dizzy and by focusing on it some more, I noticed that it is not even. I used the ruler tool in Photoshop and found that the horizon is actually off a bit. It's higher on the left side of the image than on the right. I don't think it's overly a big deal, but it would enhance the photo a bit if you were to level the horizon. I recently had the do that with a couple of my photos and is an easy fix with Photoshop.
Other than that, I feel the quality of the photograph is brilliant and so beautiful - great job!
This is a very striking and beautiful photo. I love the left hand side with the strong orange highlights of the clouds and the soft yellows and oranges of the sky and the reflections off the waters. the color and the detail of this photo is amazing and i really have nothing bad to say about this. good work
