A couple of interesting things going on here -
1) Over 2 meters of snow up there right now. It won't melt till the end of the summer.
2) The red snow is not some unfortunate hiker mauled by a hungry bear. It's algae, commonly known as watermelon snow.
3) I filled up my Camelbak here, and drank the ice-cold water all the way home.
4) There is a ranger hut, and a shelter (with beds for 30 people) hiding just behind those trees.
Location: Elfin Lakes (this is the South-West one), Garibaldi Provincial Park, Beautiful British Columbia, Canada.
Equipment: Nikon D90 + Tokina 11-16mm + Tiffen Polarizer.
Technique: Photomatix Pro 4.0 and Photoshop CS5 from 3 RAW exposures.
Download: Wallpaper up to 2560x1600, 2560x1440, and 1600x1200.
I highly recommend you download the high resolution images to see all the intricate detail in the water

Truly amazing picture. You are one of the most amazing nature photographers I know of. I love how you put your own stamp on your photographs by giving them a sort of dreamy, surreal effect. I imagine a single person standing there looking around in awe. This must truly feel like the edge of the world to people who visit. Such a pristine landscape, so beautiful and untouched.
Your use of colour is wonderful, I love the cool blue water and how it contrasts with the pure snow. This is almost like something from a videogame or one of those movies with realistic animation. You look at it and it's a struggle to believe it as real. The reflection of the clouds on the water is gorgeous and I love how you can see the mountains in the background.
This is truly breath-taking and I'm in awe of this lovely place. It certainly makes me want to visit!
Few people could ever take a stunning photo like this and even then, they'd never be up to your high standards.
