Osoyoos by IvanAndreevich Osoyoos by IvanAndreevich
2012 Landscape Calendar is now available, so go check it out! :D

I slept in the car parked right here. It started raining during the night, and towards the morning it was pouring. The rain stopped mere minutes before the sun poked out over the mountains, and illuminated the valley :) A few minutes later, it was raining again.

Location: Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, Beautiful British Columbia, Canada.
Equipment: Nikon D90 + Tokina 11-16mm + Tiffen Polarizer.
Technique: Photomatix Pro 4.1 and Photoshop CS5 from 3 RAW shot with AEB +1.5 EV, 0, -1.5 EV exposures.

Breathtaking! Love the contrast of the warm colours of the landscape to the cold and foreboding colour of the clouds. Great shot :D

I love all your captures. But for some reason the colours all look very artificial and exaggerated. Very vibrant off course but not natural. But the themes, the content are all very very impressive.

Photomatix, then brightness / contrast, burn and dodge tools, hue/saturation, sharpening, color balance

Cool, I'll check it out. It's a shame there are no glaciers and glacial lakes around there.

Yes it is a shame. But I think the valley looks better in the winter, personally. One year one of the lakes froze and you could walk across it, but that hasn't happened in a while...

I wouldn't dare drive there in my car in the winter LOL. A number of years ago we rolled an SUV driving up to Big White in the snow :o

Yikes! Yeah, it can get pretty bad haha. I've never have been to Big White...was it nice up there? Also another place I recommend is Cathedral Provincial Park near Keremeos. It is very beautiful up there. :)

Ivan:

this is just another in your continuing series of world class photos. I love (almost) all your works here...and the ones I don't "love" I "like a lot". Your landscapes all seem to capture the perfect light and the amazing colors and textures of the land. They are all great.

If I can ask, though, do you do much post production (Photoshop) work to achieve this quality, or is it all camera work? Just curious because it is extremely rare that I can get a landscape shot to look like anything more than a boring, flat, washed-out, one-dimensional snapshot.

It's HDR, and then half an hour in Photoshop to color balance, get the right brightness and contrast, remove the HDR artifacts, etc.

So, obviously it looks radically different than straight out of the camera.

Whew! hate to admit it, but I'm glad to hear you're doing that much post processing. It means there may be hope for me yet. :D

When you say "HDR", what exactly do you mean? What type camera are you using?

Taking three photos with different exposures and then merging them with Photomatix. Google it ;)

I'll look into it when I get some spare time.
