The 2012 landscape calendar is now available. Check it out!

I used the equivalent of a red graduated filter in post-processing to light up the sky.

Location: Tangolunda Bay, Huatulco, Mexico.
Equipment: Nikon D90 + Tokina 11-16mm.
Technique: Photoshop CS5 from 3 RAWs shot in 1.5 EV intervals. Hand-blended.

It can be so easy to take a photograph of a sunset/sunrise yet so hard to get it right and to make it beautiful. In this photograph you really captured that element.

I particularly love the texture in the sand. it appears to have been freshly raked making it very flat and hard looking. It adds a really cool effect as for me it looks like the water is just rolling off a hardwood floor.

And the sky. I think it's been said already by every one of your commenter's but that colour is phenomenal. Despite the well known topic of photograph you used here it is a stunning photograph with rich colours and originality in the sand.

Great work!

This is truly fantastic! :)

However I must ask, How do you merge the three different exposures, but still keep the "position" of the water from only one photo? It's hard to explain what I mean, but I think you will understand :P Thanks.

Hehe yes I know that, and I wonder how you merged the photos (what program, method etc you used) without also mixing the water positions? :)

Photoshop. Like I said, the water was left alone. I merged along the horizon mostly.
