Jan 1, the beginning of a new year. Decent sunset to start, hopefully more beautiful ones to follow soon

Taken with Nikon D90 + Tokina 11-16mm. Download includes 2560x1600, 2560x1440, and 1600x1200.

Richmond, BC. South arm of the Fraser river. The water had a bit of oil, as you can probably see. Somewhat unusual.

It's impossible to start off this review without just saying how amazing the lighting is. It also blows my mind that you managed to get everything so sharp in such a dark environment. It's hard to critique this kind of photo without having been there. I might have tried moving the shot up a bit to get rid of the lighter rock bottom center, it somewhat draws the eye, and I feel like it somewhat detracts from the picture as a whole. I'd be curious to see the shot cropped with the white rock cut out, the different dimensions might make the picture pop even more.

But this is just me nitpicking, it's hard to find things wrong with the picture, but that IS what a critique is. Overall, stunning shot!

What a stunning vision! You have captured so much in this shot it's hard to choose where to start.

At first you notice the colours and the richness of the sunset itself, then the perfect reflections of the cloud in the water, and the stunning highlights of the sunset on the tips of the rocks.

After looking for a moment, you see the birds peeking through the glow of the sun adding detail and interest.

I love the colours, I love the detail, and the overall feeling of stillness that emanates from the photo. Very peaceful.

The oil makes me so sad. )': but the colours are amazing! It kind of gives the water a sort of ethereal appearance near the shadows, like it has a life of its own. brilliant!
